September 22, 2001  New Events Calendar!

Be sure to visit the "Events Calendar" link!  We have a new interactive calendar that keeps itself updated and allows others to add events.  For now only Sabine, Valtros, and I will have access to add events.  If you would like a date marked for an event, let one of us know.  Credit goes to Valtros for finding this one and making a little less work for me!

September 15, 2001  Troubling Times

Troubling times have come upon our fair town once again.  There are few reasons that I can see as the basis for our current wave of discord.

The first issue that I would like to address is the rise in arguments amongst ourselves.  There are a few folks who just can't seem to get along with others.  Although there are only a few involved, it takes its toll on all of us.  I request that we all remember to treat others the way we would like to be treated.  The simple golden rule.  We are a community of different people with different backgrounds and in different places in life.  It is a given that we won't all get along all the time.  It is a given that there may be someone in the group with whom you simply do not wish to spend excessive amounts of time.  But, being part of a community requires us to put aside our differences at times.  Most of us are adults, and know better than to argue senselessly at the drop of a hat.

The second issue is Destiny's stance on pvp.  The world of Britannia has changed a great deal with the creation of Trammel.  At this point, people who still spend most of their time in Felucca accept some risk, and know they will encounter pvp situations at times.  Those who don't enjoy that risk have migrated to Trammel.  We built Ix as an outlet for that play-style.  Now, perhaps it's time for Destiny to catch up with the times and rethink some of our expectations regarding pvp combat in town.  Small issues that happen in the course of a battle in Destiny really shouldn't be reasons for leaving town.  People make mistakes.  People misunderstand or are uninformed.  People get trigger happy.  People play too rough.  That has always been the case in Destiny.  It's nothing new.  But we live in Felucca. We accept the fact that those things happen from time to time.

In the coming days, I will call meetings with our town leaders and guild leaders to discuss what we should change, if anything, and how to go about it.  It is clearly an issue that needs to be addressed.  I do ask that those of you with problems, please remember that they are problems and solutions can come of them.  But, if you leave in anger, over a problem you observe, you are not helping to find a solution, you are adding to the problem.  Destiny has survived with sheer determination and perseverance from many folks.  When we take a blow, we get back up and come back with a better plan.  We don't throw in the towel and give it up.

September 9, 2001  September Town Meeting

(I apologize for neglecting to announce the meeting prior to this afternoon.)

Council in attendance:
Carina, Mayor of Destiny
Vulcan Ironsides, Lord of Knights
Valdiroth, Destiny Representative

From Carina:
-Valtros and Sabine have earned the jobs of Ministers of Operations for Felucca and Trammel, respectively.
-Activity has slowed down a bit the past week, due to school starting back.  Carina admits not being able to devote as much time as usual the past week, due to outside issues.  Despite activity being slow in town, several people are starting to take up some of the slack and hold events and activities.

From Vulcan:
-The KFW Guild colors contest deadline for entries is TOMORROW September 10.  Please get your entry turned in by then!  50,000gp and 50 yards of necro blue cloth are on the line for the best colors!
-Bussy Bee, of KFW, will lead a group to kill savages this week.  Everyone is invited.

From Valdiroth:
-Bussy Bee has been our most active recruiter as of late.  She's brought several new folks to our parts.
-He attended a meeting for a newly forming Trade Association in Trammel that Ix will be a part of.  The association will start with raw materials trading between participating cities.  He marked Ix down for fish and lumber as it's two top (and only) exports.

From our Ministers of Operations:
-Valtros asked everyone to please read and respond to his post at the Town Hall.  He announced plans for a 2 vs. 2 battle at the keep soon.  He also let everyone know that we'll be doing Treasure Hunts on Thursday nights.
-Sabine announced the field trip to the Orb Museum tomorrow night.  And a chaos lecture September 19.  She also will be looking for feedback for October events.

September 5, 2001  Ministers of Operations

DW, under the new direction of Archiabald is back up and running.  If you enjoy the fight for Order or just want to learn some pvp, see Archiabald about the Destiny Warriors.  DW Webpage.

Also, I am proud and excited to present to you our new Ministers of Operations:

Trammel - Sabine
As our Librarian, Sabine has already been doing the job at Ix, so it was only natural for her to move into this position.

Felucca - Valtros

Valtros has shown that he has ideas and the capability to carry them out. He has been an unofficial leader in town for a while now.

Thank you to those of you who applied. These were not easy decisions to make. I'm sure Sabine and Valtros will do fine jobs. Join me in congratulating them and look for more information from them and about the roles they will serve in the coming weeks.
