November 26, 2001   Mayoral Candidates' Platforms!

As most of you hopefully know, there is a campaign for mayor going on in Destiny.  We've had two good candidates step up to run, Crystal and Mendanbar.  Here are their platforms, as seen at the Town Hall:

Mendanbar's Platform

Hail and Well met.
For those who do no know me, I will give a brief introduction. My name is Mendanbar and I have been part of Destiny for over 2 years now. I am a former GM of ToD and a Town Leader. I am also know as Dafydd and Artemis Entreri. You've probably seen my characters around.
Now for my campaigning. If elected mayor the first thing I would like to do is to sit with all Town Leaders and guild masters to get there thoughts and ideas of the town. I will also be visiting other player run towns and establishments to better our relations with them. Hopefully, these new relations will bring new friends and new, exciting adventures.
Also, I will be working closely with recruiting and the guild masters to try and bring in new recruits. Hunting and Events will play a major part in bringing in new members. I am hoping to set up a new system to make running events and hunts a lot easier than it currently is.
Hopefully, with the citizens support, new ideas and some changes, we can bring the old town of Destiny back to life. So we can show the new members of Destiny what it was like to sit in the courtyard sparring or just talking and having fun.

Thank you for listening

Mendanbar

Crystal's Platform

Hello my name is Crystal. I have been in and around Destiny for over a year now and currently hold the title of Destiny Recruiter and recently have been appointed one of the Town Leaders. As a recruiter for Destiny I have the opportunity to speak with a lot of our citizens and with many new faces outside our community.
What I have found is that people want to be able to gather together to talk and or spar in a relatively safe place.

As mayor I would work with the guild masters to try and increase guild presence in town. More people in town means that trouble makers are less likely to cause problems. I am not saying this will eliminate them but it should cut down on the frequency.

I would also try to work with the merchant's guilds to work out ways to increase traffic through our community through more vendors with a wider variety of goods.

It is hard for one person to be available at all times, so I would try and form a few new offices to our Government that would help take care of the little things like disputes between citizens and general questions.
Maybe like a town sheriff that is familiar with all the rules and proclamations of our community that has the knowledge and patience to deal with situations that will occur.

Our world is full of monsters, murderers, and thieves. I would like to get together with the town leaders and try to form some sort of judicial system for our community.
If we could get this going all citizens would have to agree to bind themselves to the findings of such a system. This would become part of the recruiting process.

I would continue to hold monthly town meetings. Also I would like to devise a method for citizens of our community to make suggestions without having to wait till the monthly meeting.
Improvement is critical to our town and we must grow or else we stand the possibility of fading away.

Our community is comprised of many guilds, yet those guilds are seldom seen in town or doing activities or events. We have been doing many weekly events and would like to see them being continued. I have found that citizens enjoy and look forward to them.

I would like to see tournaments going on like the one Vulcan and I did a few months back. It was rather enjoyable and exciting to see so many people attend the Joust. They bring many people to our town and some enjoy what they see and ask to join us.

And mostly to be able to follow in Carina’s footsteps and continue all the hard work and accomplishments she has done for Destiny.

Please also see this thread at the town hall to read their responses to questions from citizens.  If you are a citizen in good standing, meaning you have a character who is a member of a Destiny guild (DES, TOD, KFW, DW, or IX), you may cast your vote by sending an ICQ message to Vulcan Ironsides, at 36405832 (username: Zaran) or at email zaranblack@hotmail.com  Voting ends November 30, 2001 at midnight central time.

November 12, 2001  A Year Comes to Pass

Wow. What a year!  Since it’s time for Destiny to begin selecting a new mayor, I thought instead of being sad about the change, I’d look back over the year and highlight some of the more noteworthy moments…

(please don’t be upset if something isn’t here that you’d expect to be here.  One side effect of this job is that my memory is shot.  Just because it’s not here doesn’t mean it’s not noteworthy.)

  • My first Town Meeting as Mayor.  We had about 30 people there and only about 1/3 of them were from Destiny.  Talk about unexpected and ill prepared!  Just throw me in the deep end!
  • Opened up the new web page in early February – thanks to a week home with the flu in late January.
  • In early March, we mourned the untimely passing of our friend Raven.
  • Late March brought the Arbor Day Festival, where Destiny made the premier attempt to grow new trees in Felucca.
  • In April, we celebrated the wedding of Crystal and Black Knight.
  • Early May brought about heavy discussions of a Destiny in Trammel.
  • We jousted our way through the end of May.
  • June’s Town Meeting was held at Ix.  The Trammel location was finally a reality!
  • The Library lost its jars…and later go them back J
  • In August we fought orcs and raided the Keep with no clothes.
  • September brought us new Ministers of Operations for both Felucca and Trammel.  KFW finally picked some new guild colors.  And there was much ado over PVP in town and other various ‘disgruntleties’.
  • In October, I took a major break; ToD held a crafts faire and Radagast tried to be Marina for Halloween.
  • November dawned with more sadness, as we learned of the passing of Mr. Pibb/Lord James.
  • November, for me, has been a solemn time of removal and remembrance of all things I’ve loved about Destiny for so long.

I can, and sometimes do, look at Destiny with sadness that things aren’t the way they once were.  But, really it’s the good times and fond memories that stick with us for years.  The items I listed above are only a drop in the bucket of all the good times I’ve had, as Mayor of Destiny.  I hope that the next person up for the job has the same experience.

I began this job with a deep admiration for everything Dren Jootz did to build this town.  Throughout my term, I looked to him and his words for examples to follow in several situations.  I leave this job with the same, if not deeper, admiration and respect for Dren.

My time in this world is already being eaten away by other things.  I’ll not be around as much as I once was.  (At least for a while.)  I’d like to see what Destiny could do without my hands in the middle of things anyway!

This week, (Nov. 13-17), everyone who wants to campaign for the position of mayor will need to make that public via the Town Hall message board.  (I’ll start a thread there right after publishing this.)  We will have two weeks of campaigning (Nov. 13-24) and Vulcan will lead the actual election during the last week of November.  Look for more information on voter registration and other election-related topics from Vulcan soon.

November 7, 2001  What's up with Carina?

Hey!  I bought a house!  Okay, I know this isn't the "what's up with Carina" section, but I'm excited.  At least I changed the date on the page!  Anyway, moving and such will keep me occupied for a little while longer.  So everyone try to fill in for me while I'm away.
